July 18 (Friday) – A Rainy Day, a Flat Tire and a Museum

The day started out dreary and very wet.  It rained off and on all night and there was a light drizzle as we left our resort.  And it was rather chilly…a bit of a surprise. And the skies were amazing.

We headed out across the Gobi for our next destination.

Unfortunately, we weren’t out too long before one of our cars had a flat.  With the two drivers working on it we were only delayed for about 20 minutes or so.

Eventually we got to the town of Dalanzadgad to visit the Gobi Museum of Nature and History.  It was in a beautiful modern building.

The collection was a mix of art and artifacts.

And there was even a full dinosaur skeleton.

 The adjacent concert hall.

We stopped later in another town for lunch.  The restaurant was rather more elegant than most of the places we have visited.

Then it was out across the desert for more driving.  And we saw a lot of camels today.

We arrived late in the afternoon at our next hotel, the Gobi Caravanserai Resort.  This was so much different than all the other resorts and camps we have stayed in the last few days.  The architecture was very modern…not a ger to seen anywhere.

We had great views from our hotel room.  It had a wall of massive windows.

Nearby was an interesting art installation…human type sculptures in a circle.  Paul headed out and got some photos.  Unfortunately, he brought back shoes full of mud.  Took us a while to get them cleaned.

Dinner was a buffet in the dining room.  A nice selection of foods.  We were all tired after all of the driving and headed back for early bedtimes.
